[1] PRoFLUID
‘Practice of Fluid and Vasopressor Therapy in Critically Ill Invasively Ventilated Patients’ (PRoFLUID) is an international, multicenter, observational cohort study in critically ill adult patients that are invasively ventilated for more than 24 hours
PRoFLUID will provide useful insights into the practice of fluid and vasopressor therapy in invasively ventilated critically ill patients; it also allows to determine whether geo–economic differences in management of intravenous fluid and vasopressor therapy exist
PRoFLUID is registered at clinicaltrials (NCT05968066); the study protocol was published in Annals of Translational Medicine (2024; 12:92); the primary analysis will be performed soon

[2] CONFIDENCE
‘Effect of lung ultrasound-guided fluid deresuscitation on duration of ventilation in intensive care unit patients’ (CONFIDENCE) is an international multicenter randomized clinical trial in adult critically ill patients that are expected to be invasively ventilated for at least 24 hours
patients assigned to the intervention will receive daily LUS with fluid balance recommendations; subjects in the control arm are deresuscitated at the physician's discretion without the use of LUS; the primary endpoint is the number of ventilator–free days and being alive at day 28
CONFIDENCE is registered at clinicaltrials (NCT05188092); the study protocol was published in TRIALS (2023; 24:226)

[3] LoCo
this was a preplanned secondary analysis of the ‘Low versus Conventional tidal volumes during one–lung ventilation for minimally invasive oesophagectomy trial’ (LoCo), a singlecenter randomized clinical trial that compared intraoperative protective ventilation with conventional ventilation during esophagectomy
this secondary analysis focussed on the effects on fluid management and vasopressor use
LoCo is registered at Netherlands Trial Register (NTR 4391); this secondary analysis was published in European Journal of Anaesthesiology (2022; 39:841)

[4] PRoVENT–COVID
this was a preplanned secondary analysis of the ‘PRactice of VENTilation in patients with COVID–19’ (PRoVENT–COVID), a nationwide multicenter observational study undertaken at 22 Dutch ICUs, including 1022 patients from the first wave of the national outbreak
this secondary analysis studied the association between early cumulative fluid balance and successful liberation from invasive ventilation
PRoVENT–COVID is registered at clinicaltrials (NCT04346342); the study protocol was published in Annals of Translational Medicine (2020; 8;1251); this secondary analysis was published in Critical Care (2022; 26:157)
