[1] WISdOm
the ‘Respiratory Weaning in Surgical versus Non–surgical Patients’ (WISdOm) is a secondary analysis of the WEAN SAFE international multicenter prospective observational cohort, including 5869 patients receiving invasive ventilation for more than 2 days across 481 ICUs in 50 countries
WEAN SAFE is registered at clinicaltrials (NCT03255109); and the primary analysis was published in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine (2023; 11:465–476); the WISdOm analysis has been submitted for publication
connect with Johannes Geilen or Marcus Schultz for further information on the WISdOm analysis
[2] WEAN–Mob
the ‘Associations of Passive and Active Mobilization with Weaning Outcome’ (WEAN–Mob) is a secondary analysis of the WEAN SAFE international multicenter prospective observational cohort, including 5869 patients receiving invasive ventilation for more than 2 days across 481 ICUs in 50 countries
WEAN SAFE is registered at clinicaltrials (NCT03255109); and the primary analysis was published in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine (2023; 11:465–476); the WEAN–Mob analysis will be submitted for publication soon
connect with Denise Battaglini or Marcus Schultz for further information on the WEAN–Mob analysis
[3] geoWEAN
the ‘Geo-economic variations in weaning management’ (geoWEAN) is a secondary analysis of the WEAN SAFE international multicenter prospective observational cohort, including 5869 patients receiving invasive ventilation for more than 2 days across 481 ICUs in 50 countries
WEAN SAFE is registered at clinicaltrials (NCT03255109); and the primary analysis was published in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine (2023; 11:465–476); the geoWEAN analysis will be submitted for publication soon

[4] REPOrt
the ‘REhabilitation and Physiotherapy in critically ill patients and association with Ventilator Free Days, Outcome, and Quality Of Life’ (REPOrt) is an international multicenter observational study focusing on practice of physiotherapy and ventilation in critically ill ventilated patients
REPOrt is registered at clinicaltrials (NCT07093125); the study protocol has been submitted for publication (pending)
REPOrt has been enrolling patients in 21 countries since October 2025; other countries are welcome and national coordinators are still needed
REPOrt is designed so that its database can be harmonized and pooled with those from PRoVENT and PRoVENT 2+
contact us in case you have questions or wish to become a national coordinator; more information can be found at the REPOrt website
[5] TRiDENT
using a mixed Delphi methodology, this Delphi, named 'TRacheostomy in DEiphi for iNTensive care' (TRiDENT) will identify current insights in care for tracheotomized critically ill patients
TRiDENT is registered at clinicaltrials (NCT07481435); the study protocol will also be published soon
connect with Denise Battaglini or Prashant Nasa for information on this Delphi
[6] RE:WEAN
'Evaluating Practices in Rehabilitation during WEANing from Mechanical Ventilation' (RE:WEAN) aims to assess current rehabilitation practices applied during the weaning phase from invasive ventilation across international ICUs, with a particular emphasis on timing, intensity, and criteria for initiating physiotherapy and mobilization in ventilated patients
by identifying variations in practice, resource gaps, and perceived barriers to implementation, RE:WEAN seeks to inform future studies ultimately promoting standardized, evidence–based rehabilitation strategies to optimize outcomes for patients undergoing weaning
RE:WEAN has received ethical approval and is now ready to start
